A franchise development day with a quantity surveyor

We hold franchise development days once a month, which involve CPD (continued professional development). This time we heard from Brender Deka, a Quantity Surveyor, who talked about how we put together costings for our projects, and how we manage projects to ensure they stay within budget.

We have been reviewing client’s budgets, how their projects progress, what their end fees are, and what their total costs are through case studies. We considered case studies that went over budget and discussed why. We compared our client who didn’t mind having high spec finishes to our project that had a fixed budget, and we considered how we stayed within it: whether cuts had to be made and what process we went through to analyse the costs, and how the Quantity Surveyor helped us to achieve the target budget.

Laura, who had little experience with costing, gained a sense of ballpark figures and some real-life projects, and compared Brender’s cost plan to the actual costs. With these costings in mind, Laura is more prepared for future projects; she is more able to advise clients on costs and more able to help them to stay within budget.
